September is glass month in Indianapolis, and many glass artists and galleries will participate with special events – including mine!
In celebration of Indy Glass Month, Nancy Lee Designs Studio is showing the works of two glass artists from Terre Haute, Indiana, in a show entitled Above/Below. Anna Lee Chalos-McAleese and Andy McAleese, a husband and wife duo, observe and study nature. In what they see, be it cultivated fields from airplanes, waterfalls or mountains, they find an underlying mathematical structure. In their collaborative pieces, Anna Lee and Andy take Origami – delicate folded paper – and transform it into patterned fields of cast, transparent, solid glass. This transformation, with it’s subtle surface creases, soft textures and shadows, changed into bold shimmering glass torrents of shifting light, is striking. This exhibition includes both collaborative and individual works from these two fine artists.
Visit the artists during a special opening reception during the IDADA First Friday Art Tour on Friday, September 5 from 6-9 pm.
Anna Lee’s work ranges from cold worked glass, hot blown glass, and mixed media pieces, and Andy’s are mixed media works of art with glass and wood. Meet Anna Lee in the video below!
Martha Nahrwald’s Five Seasons Gallery will host glass artist Ben Johnson.
